Aven Orgnac: discover a cave that breathes |
|
|
After being declared the «Grand Site de France» in 2004 along with Pointe du Raz, Pont du Gard and Montagne Sainte-Victoire, Aven d'Orgnac is now waiting to be listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Apart from its distinct scientific interest - the cave breathes at regular intervals through its natural openings, offering an impressive scene - for quite a few years the site has benefited from monumental renovation work. As a result, thousands of crystalline formations, some of them dozens of meters long, which are hanging from vaults more than 50 m high, are highlighted by spectacular lighting and scenic design. Near the cave, you will also want to see the Mediterranean forest and its strange dolmens.
