Free-thinking Carouge

ImageBuilt as an 18th century urban concept along the Arve River, across from Protestant Geneva, the town of Carouge was known from the start for its religious tolerance. This guided tour explores that open-minded heritage and lets you discover exceptional libraries : the Jesuit one with some 50 000 volumes or the Oriental one, as well as the Old Jewish Cemetery where the story of the Jewish community unfolds. But the spirit of tolerance and free-thinking (which, some say, is  Carouge's only dogma) also imbues the charming town today : a freedom that won't contradict the harmonious cohabitation of the richly decorated Protestant church (not open in between services) with offers a surprising contrast to the elegant sobriety of the Catholic church.
