These classic, yet perennially fashionable, outdoor cafes allow us to dream of Elsewhere from the very first beautiful days. They showcase a few of Carouge's jewels.

Lion d’Or |

A place to enjoy in winter as well as in summer. The three-hundred-year-old restaurant's terrace extends out onto a small green courtyard in Vieux Carouge. And here, among risottis, each more creative than the last, and a menu inspired by Italian and French cuisine, you simply forget that you are in Geneva. The manager, Daniele Comettini, with his sing-song accent, sends you flying to Lake Majeur in northern Italy, his home country.

Qu'importe... |
A well designed outdoor cafe, with wine bar and succulent tapas. Carouge is being threatened by the «hip movement» and could fear the worst from this newly opened establishment. And yet, Qu'importe manages it all perfectly. The wines are little unknown wonders, the tapas have a Genevan twist, and the cooked meats are prepared on an antique wooden block. Delightful dishes, which are not all that expensive, have recently been added to their list of treats.
You won't be disappointed here. The staff is warm, friendly and efficient. Their supreme distinction is that even the Carouge locals dine at Qu’importe. Despite its «new look,» this building was once the old Tamborini grocery shop, a great scene from the «Sardinian city.» It's a good example of «savoir-vivre» with the times. Even the foppish Alfred de Musset would certainly not have renounced this place, whose name is inspired from his famous line, «What matters [Qu'importe] the jug, if drunkenness be within.» Qu’importe 1, rue Ancienne (locate) 1227 Carouge Tél + 41 (0) 342 15 25 Photo: CCA |

Ô calme |
An adorable outdoor cafe nestled between the lavish walls of Vieux-Carouge. The original decoration, very cozy atmosphere, and lovely dining room opening out to the garden make you feel «quiet» (in french Ô Calme) . They serve quiches, soups, salads and delicious cakes. They even do brunch on Sundays. The prices are quite high.
