La Maloca: Amazon in the heart of Carouge Print

ImageThis industrial premises situated on the St-Julien road is not so easy to dig up. A flight of stairs leads you to the first floor and there, pushing open the door, the heat of South America embraces you.

Bar, restaurant, night club and even conference room at the same time, the «Maloca» is, to begin with, an association which allows Latin American communities to gather.

In the Amazon, a «Maloca» refers to a hut in which the villagers meet in order to talk about their businesses. A hut, a village, a river and the forest are painted on the walls of this place opened to all on each Wednesday evening.

A spot that offers you a complete change of scene and a typically Peruvian cuisine. You'll go mad over the «Ceviche», a raw fish lime marinade, the «Papa à la Huancaina», steamed potatoes coated with cheese cream or the «Anticucho», a marinated and grilled beef heart. The generous helpings of these specialities can only compete with the kindness of the patron's smile.
