Drome
The Drome District Print

ImageOn the southern limits of the Rhone Alps, at the entrance to Provence, Drome is flourishing between the Rhône and Vercors, and has, with its slightly warm accent, already overtaken Valence. Situated on the 45th parallel, endowed with a distinct relief - one goes blithely from an altitude of 60 to 2400m - Drôme's climate is as diverse as its flora and fauna.

The five regions of Drome

Drôme des collines (the Drome of hills) - It is a land lush with forests, orchards and vines that mark a smooth transition between the mountains and the plains, the Alps and Provence. To discover: the Palais du facteur Cheval, the Tain l'Hermitage vineyards and the capital city of footwear (Romans).

Royans-Vercors - An unforgettable landscape: imposing panoramas, audacious roads, underground rivers and a Nature Reserve (Vercors).

Valence sur Rhône - Located on the great north-south european route, Valence sur Rhône is tempting for its old town, its pedestrian zones, its shaded squares, its beautiful facades in pastel shades.

Vallée de la Drôme-Diois - Mother Earth, the region harbours treasures which are a gourmet's delight: picodon, croquants, clairette, aromatic plants. And of course lavender cultivated on the mountainside in the heart of Diois country… a place that has inspired a number of artists to take up residence there.

Drôme Provencale - An extraordinary mosaic of land, an ever meridional ambience where cypress, holm oak, olive, vine, thyme and lavender thrive. Scrublands pulsating with the jangling of bells from the goat and sheep herds and a perpetually blue sky.
