Mas de la Roche: a spa that is carved off the rock

Print
ImageTroglodyte enthusiasts will love this little marvel nestled in the rock for at least five centuries.

A construction discovered after years of research by Michèle and Pierre Mézin. Gifted with a real talent for construction, Pierre had already renovated a sheepfold by himself when he was still a ski patrolman at the Deux-Alpes. Thus it was very natural for him to pick up the nails and hammer again to build a cosy nest for himself. He added up four guestrooms and a spa with massage jets that he carved off the rock.

The dining is also well worth a try with, among the guests of honour, lamb and home-grown vegetables, figs gratin and even polenta rabbit in memory of the days spent in the mountains. If you still have time on your hands for going out, don't hesitate to go explore the area where romantic castles and typical villages await you.

Suggestions of activities around the Mas:

- a three hour hike starting from the Mas, passing through a renovated priory church before going up to La Viale where you will discover the ruins of the Château des Marquis and a panoramic view on the Mount Ventoux and Southern Ardèche. Orientation table at the top.

- the castle of Grignan, made famous, obviously, through the correspondence of Mme de Sévigné.

- the bucolic villages of Taulignan and of Poët Laval, the Provençal market in Nyons and the oil mills.

- le domaine Piallat, just beside Mas de la Roche where we can taste wines from the Côtes du Rhône, truffles in season, olive oils and can also find lavender essential oil.
