It was in order to stop "undoing at his desk all that he worked for in his civic duties" that Thomas Huriez gave up his job as an IT manager and launched himself in the world of sustainable fashion! The row of factory outlets opposite his family home in Romans gave the young entrepreneur the idea of opening a unified sustainable destocking outlet.
His novel proposal was well received by most of the ecological and fair-trade brands that he contacted in the summer of 2006, and the "Comptoir à part" was officially opened in October 2007. It proved to be an immediate success. Used to factory outlets, the good people of Romans quickly took to this newcomer, turning it into an integral part of their shopping. "It is true that we wanted to demystify eco-fashion. Just because a garment is produced along sustainable concepts does not mean it has to be ugly!" chuckles Huriez. So do not expect to find a Peruvian bonnet or a traditional slipper-sock, but rather, clothes made of organic cotton, linen, wild silk, and accessories and footwear of leather tanned without chrome.
Brands such as Poetik, Switcher, Zaza Factory, Patatrac and La Vie Devant Soie jostle for shelve space with original reversible bags, Nu jeans and other products by C-Marcel, Hip 2, The Jive, etc. As for footwear, we are in Romans for crying out loud! The footwear capital of the world! There is Bionat, El Naturalista, Ethletic and Moyi Ekolo to name a few. All these come at very reasonable rates as they are all destocked products.
The "Comptoir à part" does not stop with collections, it encompasses an entire lifestyle: clothes hangers made of Jura wood, labels of recycled paper, vegetable inks and even organic paints used for renovating buildings. And as sustainable development is synonymous with prudent consumption, the "Comptoir à part" organises, on the first Thursday of every month, a grand "Fashion swap" to replace the clothes lying unused on the shelves. Participation is free and the fitting rooms are very thoughtfully made available. Clothes with no takers are placed on the "anti-crisis" shelf near the entrance for anyone to help himself. Such an elegant concept! It is truly a world a-part! - To be discovered in real life in Romans or on the internet at: http://www.stockethic.fr/
