The Loire district

Print

Image The Loire district can boast of the fact that France's longest river runs through it, from the North to the South, for more than 100 Kms. Not a monotonous place: the plateaus give way to broad plains and narrow valleys while fading into the mountains dominating the territory.

Five regions

The Roannais - Yonder is the north of the département. A veritable entity all by itself: home to knitwear and textile but also to gourmets. A country that has managed to preserve its charm of yore, a nature still authentic with lakes, ponds and rivers.

The Forez - At dawn, during sunrise, the curvature of the Monts du Forez is most evident, a massif untainted and still wild. It is a realm of forests, high plateaus and moors. A territory for lovers of virgin Nature.

The Stéphanois - Considered a “dark region” in the past because of the presence of coal mines, located on "la route bleue", which runs from Paris to the Mediterranean and is bordered by the gorges of the Loire, the Stéphanois is a holiday, and bathing, destination for people from the city, with a port and a beach prepared for water sports.

The Lyonnais - from the plains of Forez to the banks of the Loire, this region is endlessly surprising with the diversity of its landscapes. More than 1000 km of marked walkways for strollers, hikes along crests or into lush forests in absolute tranquility.

Pilat - with 66,000 hectares of beech and fir forests at a high altitude, pastures on plateaus and orchards and vineyards on the edge of the Rhône, it is a verdure box in a protected and sometimes still wild nature two steps away from Saint Etienne; all an invitation to a walk.
