The innovative work of Genevan architect, Maurice Braillard, and Parisian engineer, André Rebuffel, the Salève's cable car was inaugurated in 1932, replacing the electric railway that was built in 1892 and disappeared in 1936.

It's connected to a higher station at the very end of a vertical wall of a few hundred meters. Considering the 5 roads that lead to the top of the Salève, this amazing elevator is still the most comfortable way of getting there in just a few minutes. From the top of this gigantic rocky island at 1300m, one looks over the Genevan Basin and enjoys the stunning panorama from the Jura Mountains to the Alps, including Mont-Blanc. It's a place to dream, but it also offers the opportunity to enjoy less contemplative activities. A few ideas:

Did you know that the Club Aéronautique d'Annemasse is one of the oldest clubs in France and that the Salève-Voirons aerodrome was created in 1935? A rich past which continues today with an aerodrome that has a fleet of 24 planes, a flying school and a whole series of take off possibilities, even if you've never left solid ground before.

Revered by the Greeks and adulated by the Indians and the Arabs, the horse has, since time immemorial, evoked man's desire for domestication. The Genevois Haut-Savoyard territory has many riding centres that allow one to practise dressage, show jumping, equestrian games, cross-country rides or cantering. To explore equally, horse or pony grooming which enables one to develop an excellent relationship with these animals, who are so full of character. Children from the age of three can also be introduced to horse riding with ponies adapted to their size.
