Hôtel Baud: happiness is in Bonne |
What an exemplification of its name this hotel is, where you feel at ease the moment you cross the threshold. Peaceful, quiet rooms, most of which open onto a very pretty garden and the Menoge River, with the decor of some rooms wearing the signature of designer André Djian, little signs of attentiveness and thoughtfulness all over the place, a fruit platter to snack on, magazines and books at hand.
The dining won't disappoint you, with its very cozy dining room, and tables overflowing into the garden, on the shore of the Menoge, in summertime. The young chef, Christophe Morel, earned his stripes in Lyon and in Annecy. The delectable aromas are unmistakable proof! Escalope de foie gras, moelleux de saumon et blinis, suprême de pigeon rôti -- all interpreted without a false note and accompanied with a very good selection of wines. Service that is attentive without in any way being invasive, perfect timing, and all this an excellent value for the price In a word, we love it! Very highly recommended, and less than a half hour from Geneva!

Village Club Med Avoriaz revisits the seventies |
All beautiful, all new: the Avoriaz Village Club Med has had a makeover in 2007. A whole mix of orange colour and wood reminiscent of canadian cedar tavaillons covering the resort facades. Add a few pretty touches - carpets with imprints of ski tracks in the snow, artifacts from the region or also motifs of former skiers - and you get a seventies style whose character has been conceived by Gilles Leborgne, the designer. A residence with 260 rooms that opens directly onto the ski area of Portes du Soleil, and its approximately 700 km of tracks spread out upto Switzerland.

The Auberge of Mégevette: a room with a view on the Risse |
Despite being at an altitude of 884m, a so-called « middle-mountain » altitude, the panorama has all the makings of a postcard! And the Auberge of Mégevette, situated in the eponymous village, is the kind of address friends like to pass to each other when they want to spend some time incognito.
The reception itself is anything but anonymous: Eric and Jacqueline welcome you as if you were old friends. Four rooms only, but all with balconies that open to the sweet Risse valley. The sweetness is as evident in the kitchen. A professional confectioner, the owner knows how to prepare absolutely diabolic desserts and is an expert at homemade foie gras which he offers alongside traditional fondues and raclettes. Nice filets de perche as well. In short, it is simply beautiful and good!
