Do you avoid contemporary art? Then charge straight ahead to the Salomon Foundation! Claudine and Jean-Marc Salomon, collectors for many years, decided to open a foundation in 2001 in order to help make the public at large aware.

Architect by profession and the son of the founder of the eponymous firm, Jean-Marc Salomon restored the castle of Arenthon in Alex in 1999. Located not far from Annecy, in the middle of surroundings that are as idyllic as they are bare, this 13th century fortress was one of the first examples of Renaissance architecture in Haute-Savoie and played a decisive role in its diffusion throughout the region. An example of modernity before its time.

Today, the building has conserved its medieval style and gothic origins while gaining, with its most recent renovations, the light of a skylight and new bay windows. The exhibitions follow each other - at a rate of two per year - always with the same objective: to make the current trends of art known.  No rigid lines: the artists are chosen from the heart. And to accompany them, the foundation offers the visitors some explanatory texts.   

Outside, it's the reign of permanence: works from the founders' collection can be found along a little footpath. And to finish seducing you, the foundation combines the useful and the enjoyable by offering a tea house-bookshop, with comfortable armchairs in which to sample the 1,500 works put at your disposal, freely accessible.

A corner of the Orient right in Haute-Savoie. Extraordinary gardens that combine Mediterranean species with woods, with water and with flowers. A house worthy of the palaces of « The Thousand and One Nights », where not a single detail has been forgotten: a blue pond, stones transformed into rosettes, painted furniture, silky cushions. Like the history of the family that imagined it, this place is far from ordinary.

For Alain and Nicole Moumen, everything began in 1980, when they bought an old farm in Haute-Savoie. If, at that time, they were manufacturing furniture that they decorated, they had no idea of making their home into a Garden of Eden, much less of showing it to visitors! That was without counting on the unrestrained imagination and perseverance of this couple who, stone by stone, with the help of their three daughters, created a place that's totally unique. An adventure somewhat reminiscent of that of Postman Cheval's, in a more family-oriented version. An interesting and unusual place to visit from April to October.
