The Jurassien Arc proclaimed "European Landscape of the Year"

Print
ImageThe Jurassien Arc, the chain of mountains located between France and Switzerland, spread out between the Rhine to the North, the Rhône and the Alpes to the South, was elected "European Landscape of the Year 2005/06" by the President's Conference of the 21 national Federations of the Friends of Nature movement.
Among the criteria: the typical landscape patterns, including the transverse valleys, the lakes, the peat bogs, the caves, the underground streams, the sink holes and other karst phenomena. The many hiking paths, the richness of wildlife and flora as well as the preservation of traditional crafts such as watch making or carpentry have also weighed favorably in the decision. A distinction that will not fail to encourage the many initiatives taken in the region to develop a sustainable tourist industry, in particular those taken by "Preparing the Future" which has a cross-border scope. A promise for the future of cycle tourism itineraries and walking theme paths, improved tours, trips and events. More Information to Come...
