Outdoors Art, Môtiers 2007, until 23.09

For the fifth time in 22 years, Môtiers is once again a playground for contemporary art designers. 75 works of art are lined up along a path that runs from the village's main street (with historic houses, one of which Jean-Jacques Rousseau lived in) past fields and forests. The artists were free to choose their own theme and location. They were inspired by the route and environment, the idyllic nature, the village's history, Rousseau and Thérèse Levasseur, Chinese watches, the absinthe and its legends....

They play with large-scale shapes and sizes: a giant doll house, mirrors big enough to reflect the body of a horse, a giant mobile phone that looks like a drinking trough, a reconstructed Harley-Davidson, words printed in the forest, and mutant mushrooms. A few naughty ideas too: a wild hare equipped with a transmitter that causes the museum bell to ring every time the hare jerks or moves suddenly as programmed in the device (that is to say, when the hare gets randy).  Or an XXL bed laying in the pastureland and hugged by trees. Besides the 2-hour route, a few works of art can be found on private property: in gardens, fields, on roofs and even in hallways. So keep your eyes open!
