Snowkiting, it's (very) trendy Print

ImageInvented by an American surfer in the '80s and in vogue on the Hawaiian waves since the end of the '90s, the «surf kite»  crossed the oceans to touch down on the snow- covered tracks of the Alps. «Snowkiting» on skis or on snowboard is taught here, as evident from the opening of a school in Ried-Brigue, a region of the Simplon lacking in high tension lines. From calm cruising to acrobatic jumping, kite skating is open to all. Incidentally, specialists assure us that the technique is much easier to control on snow than on water. To try to be in the wind this winter.

The caves under the Zinal glacier: guided visit Print
ImageIt was during a mountain trek in 1996 that Stéphane Albasini, the guide, discovered the caves under the Zinal glaciers. A huge blue-tinged icy vault with thousands of air bubbles and frozen concretions contrasting the enormous stone blocks in the ground, the features of this universe evolve every year. A grandiose and poetic spectacle to discover at the end of winter, ideally, - the water flow makes entry impossible in the summer - after an approximately two hour journey in snowshoes from the village of Zinal.

The Gianadda Foundation Print
A builder’s legacy

fondation de Giannada This cultural centre, known throughout Europe, hardly needs presentation. Every time one goes to Martigny, it is with the same wonder: exceptional exhibitions, both temporary and permanent, fabulous concerts, the incredible sculpture park which among others, works by Rodin, Brancusi and Miro, to which was added the monumental mosaic by Chagall in 2003. Don’t miss the extraordinary collection of old cars with extremely rare Swiss vehicles such as the Pic-Pic (the car of the private Geneva banker, Pictet), the Martini and the Turicum. Take the time to wander along the archaeological walk of the Foundation – indeed, it was the discovery of this site that was at the origin of the Foundation’s creation for Gianadda is also the touching story of a family: an engineer by training and a builder by trade, as he was about to start work on the construction of an apartment block in the spring of 1976, Léonard Gianadda uncovered the remains of a Gallo-Roman temple. Shortly afterwards, his brother Pierre was lost in an aeroplane accident on his way to help some friends. To perpetuate the memory of a brother of whom he was especially fond, Léonard inaugurated the Pierre Gianadda Foundation in 1978.
