A rose is born! |
«Soyeuse de Lyon » (Lyon Silky) is the very suggestive name given to the rose that was created especially for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the « Parc de la Tête d'Or » in Lyon. This rose, which was selected during a contest held among rose-growers, will join the 350 varieties already present in the Park. Now see if you can spot the latest rose in these huge rose gardens, which were begun initially with a selection of rosebushes donated by Joséphine de Beauharnais.

As the years passed and renovations went on, Fourvière revealed vestiges of the Gallo-Roman times, Saint-Jean remnants of the Middle Ages and Old Lyon's Renaissance treasures.

When Lyon reveals itself at the pace of the river |
If, until recently, the banks of the river Rhône were mainly used as car parks, they have gotten back their initial destination of use today: a space dedicated to strolling. Thus, while you cover the 5 kilometres between the Parc de la Tête d'Or and the new Gerland neighbourhood, you will cross the entire city of Lyon from North to South. The major part of the walk goes alongside the river, among hundreds of trees of all essences with an unusual view on the two hills of Fourvière and Croix Rousse that overlook the original Renaissance buildings of this World Heritage city.

The African plain in the heart of Lyon |
Opened in 1856, the Tête d'Or park recreated a piece of real African plain in the heart of its zoo - one of the oldest in Europe. No more cages or cramped pens : ostriches, antelopes, giraffes and other lemurs live together in (semi-)freedom in this next generation zoological garden.
