The African plain in the heart of Lyon |
|
Opened in 1856, the Tête d'Or park recreated a piece of real African plain in the heart of its zoo - one of the oldest in Europe. No more cages or cramped pens : ostriches, antelopes, giraffes and other lemurs live together in (semi-)freedom in this next generation zoological garden.
In other words, an environment as close to their original savanna as possible has been completely designed for them. Bushes have been integrated into this landscape to preserve the animals privacy. Colored sands and rock stratum are part of their environment, in order to be sure that they live happily. Some endangered species even take part in European breeding programs. Do not miss this park, one of the largest urban parks in Europe, which, besides a botanical garden, a rose garden and an artificial lake of 16 hectares, even has a «guignol» puppet theatre.
