Paragliding: take-off in the country of pioneers Print

ImageThe Haute-Savoie is at the root of all challenges. If rock climbing was named after a gorge in the Salève that was conquered by a group of Genevans at the end of the 19th century, then paragliding was born on the summit of Pertuiset in Mieussy. In fact, on June 27th 1978 André Bohn, Jean Claude Bétemps and Gerard Bosson were the first people to attempt and succeed in jumping off a cliff. The main motivation of these three parachuting enthusiasts: to reduce the cost of flying by plane. This first successful attempt led Gerard Bosson a little later to establish the first paragliding club: a new sport had been born.
