Rendez-vous at Le Verre Galant

Print

ImageSaint-Etienne is the homeland of Les Verts (the Green Party and a football team). And as it happens, home to the « verres» (drinking glasses) as well. Welcome to « Le Verre Galant » (the gallant glass)! This is in reference and homage to Le Vert Galant (Gallant Green), nickname for Henri IV.  Jean-Jacques Maleysson, the dynamic and friendly owner of Le Verre Galant, proudly displays respect for his Parisian counterpart, Le Verre Volé (stolen glass), an authentic quality-wine bistro on Rue de Lancry in the 10th Arrondissement.

You'll find Le Verre Galant at 6 Rue François Gillet, in the heart of St.-Etienne. A quiet street for this private, yet warm and talented, business. Simple, hearty meals for lunch (cooked meats, bread, chitterlings sausage, cheeses...). Small bottles, cleverly and lovingly selected, that you can buy if your heart desires.

Jean-Jacques Maleysson strongly recommends: the very original white Coteaux-du-Vendômois 2006 vintage from Emile Hérédia (9.80 Euros), the enjoyable « Le Rouge » 2005 vintage from La Garrelière estate in the Loire Valley (7.40 Euros), and the excellent red Saint Joseph wine from the Sainte Epine 2005 vintage from Hervé Souhault (22 Euros).

Both connoisseurs and novices are warmly welcomed at Le Verre Galant, so don't be afraid to try Jean-Jacques Maleysson's shrewd recommendations. Having gone through training with Marcel Lapierre in Morgon and with André Perret in Condrieu, his advice can only be the best!
